The hand pumped lever enables the user to regulate the espresso completely. By utilizing freshly ground beans, tamped firmly into the filter basket the Europiccola is designed to produce a conventional Italian style espresso. The design in the La Pavoni lever machines was developed within the 1950s, with little change since, and is a design icon. Lifting the lever exposes an opening inside the wall in the coffee group and the steam pressure inside the boiler pushes warm water into the coffee. Lowering the lever exerts pressure for the water in the coffee to make sure a complete extraction. The Europiccola is designed being unbreakable and is also designed to last for many years. The boiler is of brass, with chromium on the outside to improve its appearance also to minimise heat loss. The 1000 watt element and pressurestat system ensures the steam pressue inside the boiler is kept in a constant 0.8 bars. Heating time is 5 minutes
